This was not your typical proposal. I was in Vancouver and she was in Toronto. The most important thing was we weren't even dating. I had just returned from Toronto on my yearly summer trips out there to visit the family and friends. This time I had brought back a little bit more, a feeling in my heart. I started talking to Savitha on facebook and then added her on msn. She was online quite a bit and we became close. She would come online everyday right after her work and it became a ritual for us. There was a twist to this story which I am not sure if I want to bring here but will leave that to Savitha to decide. Anyhow time wasn't on my side. I had feelings for her already and discussed with my closest friends (My brother and Sharmila) about what I should do. I knew we can have an amazing life. I had even begun having dreams about our future etc. I started giving her hints that I liked her, but seemed like she refused to take those hints. I kept on saying "hey we need to talk" but every time it was, "I gota go", "no time", "got work in the morning" etc. Even with those excuses, she would stay and talk to me for hours but not let me say whats on my mind. She seemed like she didn't want to hear it. I was on the verge of saying ok she isn't interested why ruin the friendship I had with Sajeev and also have Savitha hate me as well. I was about to give up. But on Sept 11, it was a Friday she had no excuses to sleep early etc. Next week I knew would change her life so had to act. So I came right out and said it. In short it went something like:
"Why search for someone when that person is right here? I've known you for like what 16 years now. Sure we had our different paths but why can we not get married?
Is there anything that’s stopping us?"
Not your typical romantic proposal I suppose but there was also one other thing I needed. I needed the permission from her brother/my friend to marry her. She said she needed time to think about it and a few days later she wrote to me the sweetest email in the world and basically said fate has brought us together. I quickly sent an email to Sajeev as to what had happened because without his permission this will never happen. He was happy for us and was thrilled at the idea. That made my day and we started to get to know each other alot more and our families got involved. Now April 25th we'll be husband and wife to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.
Thank you all
